FROM THE WEST COAST OF CANADA
In late 2008, Cima Coppi was started by Lawrence, a Canadian, and Patricia, a Spaniard, in Little Italy in beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia. Back then, the pair traded bottles of Italian and Spanish wine for wool scraps and a few trade secrets from Angelo and Renzo – two of the finest Italian tailors on ‘the Drive’. Mostly though, the visits were simply motivated by a fondness to hear craftsmen talk about their trade and share first-hand stories about duels between Coppi and Bartali. It was Renzo Montagliani, a tailor for 53 years, who insisted on the name Cima Coppi. “La Cima Coppi, Il meglio del meglio!” Thank you, Renzo.
TO THE MOUNTAINS OF NORTHERN SPAIN
In 2015, we decided to take the next step in our journey and move to Spain, so we crammed all our machines into a crate and shipped them across the ocean. We arrived to our new home in Oviedo, the capital of the Northern province of Asturias, nestled in the foothills of the Cantabrian Mountains. We were both lured by the steep mountain roads, perfect for cycling, but also the ability to build our business here in a sustainable fashion, close to our mills and providers. We are Patricia, Barbara, Liceth and Lawrence and we run a small maker studio where we design, develop, sew and test all of our products, one-piece-at-a-time.
